August Meeting Announcement
Beekeeping 101: Season Wrap-up Q&A
In our next Beekeeping 101 session, Joe, Abram, and Freddie will be summarizing the key points covered throughout this year’s classes, offering insights into the topics we’ve discussed. This will be followed by an open floor for questions, where you can share your personal experiences and ask for advice on any challenges you may have encountered.
Looking ahead, starting in September, we will be launching an updated and more cohesive Beekeeping 101 curriculum. If you have friends or family interested in beekeeping, this is a fantastic opportunity to get them involved as we build on this year’s lessons and dive deeper into the exciting world of beekeeping!
Guest Speaker - Dr. Ferhat Ozturk
Dr. Ferhat Ozturk is an assistant professor of practice at the University of Texas San Antonio, where he
combines a strong PhD background in gene therapy, molecular and cellular biology, bioinformatics and
biochemistry research with a fervent passion for exploring the medicinal use of honey. With strong focus on
theunique biological and chemical compositions of various mono-floral honey varieties from across the globe,
Dr. Ozturk is unraveling the ancient wisdom surrounding honey‘s therapeutic benefits. His groundbreaking
research is dedicated to identifying exceptional US-based honey sources characterized by high bioactivity
levels in strong, medicinal properties, poised to not only compete, but surpassed current medical grade honeys
Join us for an exciting presentation with Dr. Ferhat Ozturk as he shares the results of honey samples donated by Bastrop Beekeepers last year. Learn how Texas and California honeys compare in their antimicrobial and antioxidant properties, and discover which samples showed potential for medical-grade classification. This talk will highlight how your honey contributes to health and healing research and what it could mean to the future of beekeeping.
